Most of the decision is made before anybody quotes you
Outdoor lighting gets quoted fast and understood slowly. One company is pricing a standard package, another drew something for your house, and you cannot tell from the page which is which.
Is there a real design?
The first question is simple: is there a plan drawn for my house? A company that works from the building's own lines can explain every run. A company that cannot is selling you a package.
After the crew leaves
Everything mounted outdoors has a day when it needs attention. Ask now who that is. For seasonal work, ask who takes it down and where it lives until next year. For permanent systems, ask how the app works and who supports it.
Ask what they actually install
The trades are related without being the same: holiday lighting, landscape lighting, permanent roofline systems, security lighting. Ask what they do not do so you can weigh the advice.
The property type
Homes and businesses are not the same job. At a house, the goal is how it looks from the street and how it works at night. A business wants to be found from the road after sunset, sometimes in brand colors. Ask which one they do more of, and weigh that against what you need done.
Signs to walk away from
A price that only holds until the end of the visit is a sales tactic, not a quote. A refusal to put the scope in writing is the next one. Vagueness about what happens after the install is the third flag.Plenty of good crews are just disorganized. Since the work is not coming down next week, the details are worth pinning down now.Two quotes are worth the trouble, as long as you read past the price line. A custom design and a stock package are not the same job, even when the numbers are close. Ask each one what they would cut first, because the answer tells you what they think matters.
Is this their area?
A company that works your area regularly knows the housing stock and the weather. EverCrest Lighting is a lighting contractor based in Greenville, South Carolina, covering Upstate South Carolina and Western North Carolina. They do permanent LED
